Warning !!! These start fires!!!
mat just started on fire! Cord cracked near the connection at the mat and started sparking and a flame appeared. Luckily the person was at their desk or our office could have burned to the ground. I do not recommend anyone buy this product! We have 5 of these and are throwing them in the trash.

If you sit at a desk all day in your office and freeze your butt off, this will save your life!
I LOVE this product! I recently relocated my office to a historic building with very thick cement and stone floors, topped with a wood-look laminate. My previous location had carpet. I sit on an exercise ball (also ordered from Amazon, Theraband Pro Series 65cm, love it) rather than a chair to alleviate back pain. I tend to be cold anyway, but when this winter started, I was freezing all the time. After a few weeks, I realized that my ball full of air was conducting all the cold straight from the 3 foot thick cement slab into my body! Heating sources can be tricky because obviously, too much heat will melt the ball and pop it. I ordered the 36" X 16" mat and it has been a lifesaver. It warms up in about 10 minutes and is the perfect length for my ball to sit on one half and my feet on the other. For people who sit in chairs, a 4 legged chair would fit over the mat nicely, but a pedestal type chair on rollers probably would be problematic because of the grooves in the mat. My feet are toasty warm all day, the ball is warm and I am warm!! I don't need to keep the far more expensive to operate room heater on as much. The product info warned against using on wood floors but didn't say anything about laminate. In order to be safe, I cut a mat sized portion of cardboard from the box the mat came in to provide a layer of protection between the mat and the floor. The floor under the cardboard is not too warm and has no damage at all. I placed another small piece of cardboard between the mat and my ball but I'm not sure that is necessary. The mat doesn't get too hot to touch. The rubber is substantial and I think it will hold up quite well. I think this would be a lifesaver for people in large buildings that tend to be cold all day long but can't do anything about it because they aren't allowed to adjust the thermostat.

Heat to the feet!
This product work surprisingly well. I have a home office that sits above a part of basement that is not insulated and, while it has baseboard heat, the area where my desk is situated has cold that comes through the floor. I have tried additional heaters, but the room gets warm while my feet and legs still slowly rob me of heat, leaving me feeling cold. The additional heaters dry out the air and make the room warm, but do little to keep me warm over time.
This mat manages to do just that! Not only does it warm my feet, but it creates some "radiant heat" beneath the desk that results in exactly the right area being warm without raising the temperature of the entire room. There was a bit of smell the first day that I used it - I believe that may be partly from oil left over on the rubber. I gave it a wipe down with some paper towel that was wet and soaked in dish detergent and that appeared to take away the odor faster. I could still smell a faint smell after a week, but it was more like a mild "new mat" smell as opposed to being overwhelming.
Now onto the heat - if you are going to use with with feet in socks / out of shoes, then you need to get either the HI/LO switch that the same manufacturer sells or (as I did) a lamp dimmer (this one: Lutron TTCL-100H-WH Credenza Dimmable CFL/LED Dimmer, White). I did have some challenges with the dimmer resulting in a buzzing noise through nearby computer speakers and telephone, so be aware of that possibility and that if you have similar challenges you may need to use an alternate outlet. Without that this simply gets too warm for comfort and alternatively you will need to turn it on and off to regulate the temperature. Despite any negatives in the above comments, overall this device works impressively well and is a lot more energy efficient to run than the alternatives. I will adjust my comments over time should that change.
I have included a couple thermal images so that you get an idea of how well it heats and the amount of heat it may provide (apparently quite a bit more than the 130F that is claimed).
